Love God Classes | Fall 2010

Unique to Women: Discovering the Voice of God—How to Recognize When God Speaks (Women’s Class)
Room: Lakeside, cost $12
Wednesday, 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
The Father so passionately loves you and desires a personal relationship in which He speaks directly to you. Discerning the Voice of God will help you know what you hear is from God. Through this study you will become familiar with God’s Holy Spirit and we will “unpack” scripture that captures the method and tone of God’s communication with His believers. This study will include individual study (workbook), and DVD/small-group session each week. Janine Shorthill, teacher

Society Room: The Spirituality of Science
Room: A200, cost of two books $21
Wednesday, 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Modeled after the “society room” of the late 1600’s, this study will convene for the purpose of thoughtful dialogue on the tense relationship between science and faith. Participants will engage in 18 minute video talks by various thinkers such as Francis Collins and Alister McGrath, as well as essays and outside reading. Participants will learn how Christians should be mindful and informed, rather than skeptical or even fearful, of science. For serious students only. Jonathan Merritt, teacher

1 and 2 Thessalonians
Room A108, cost $28
Cost: 2 Thessalonians $17
Wednesdays , 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
1 Thessalonians: You—Blameless at His Coming.
Learn the principles of exemplary Christian living. Study spiritual warfare, sparked by the presence of the Gospel in the world, and the rapture of the church–God’s ultimate rescue. (11 weeks); with a continuation of 2 Thessalonians (6 weeks) to be complete, November 17. Jeanie Herndon, teacher

2 Thessalonians: So You Won’t Be Deceived About His Coming. Confusion reigned in the Thessalonian church concerning end times until the Apostle Paul’s letter brought them comfort and clarity. Fully understand for yourself what God says about “the Day of the Lord.” Jeanie Herndon, teacher

(Attendees must attend 1 Thessalonians in order to participate in 2 Thessalonians, but the attendee does not have to do 2 Thessalonians).

Survey of the Old Testament
Room A209, cost $5
Wednesday, 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Isn’t the Old Testament irrelevant to modern Christians? Aren’t there just a few scattered promises for us today amidst all of the laws that we don’t observe anymore? If you have had any such similar thoughts, then you have completely missed out on God’s full revelation to us through His word. Come get a clearer picture of Jesus Christ in the New Testament as we seek to better understand Him through the lens of the Old Testament. Mitch Christensen, teacher

Christian Beliefs
Room A214, cost $12
Wednesdays , 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
God doesn’t call every Christian to go off to seminary, but there are certain matters of doctrine–that is, the church’s teaching–that every Christian simply must know. Theology is important because what we believe affects how we live. If you’re a relatively new believer in Jesus, or if you’re a more mature Christian looking for a quick brush-up on basics of the faith, this study is for you. Dan Ross, teacher

The first 5 chapters of Romans explains the foundational doctrines of our faith--original sin, justification, redemption, and propitiation. Gain an excellent grasp of the doctrine of salvation! This is just the first of four parts of this exciting study. You will dive into the Scripture on your own each week (30-40 min./day) and then come together to discuss all that God is teaching you. Today, it is more important than ever that believers understand Biblical salvation so that we can proclaim to others the amazing race of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Keri Mason, teacher
