Recast '09 Vision Message
On Sunday, November 22, 2009, Pastor Merritt and other staff shared a special message entitled "Recast '09: Cross Pointe Past, Present and Future". On this morning, we celebrated God's amazing victories through our church over the last 6 years, the state of our church at present, and where we believe God is leading us in the months and years to come. You can download and listen to the audio message below:

Here's a brief re-cap of the day:

Cross Pointe Past...

  • Our church began 6 years ago with about 200 people. We first met at local high schools, and then God graciously provided our current facilities through generous gifts.
  • From that humble beginning, we currently average over 1,500 in worship each Sunday, and more than 1,800 on campus each weekend.
  • We also welcomed over 1,600 first-time guests in the last 12 months to our campus.
  • Our Life Groups have grown tremendously, averaging 1,010 in attendance each week. In the last year over 3,010 people attended a Life Group at least one time. Additionally, our new Cross Pointe University Wednesday in-depth studies have more than 250 adults registered.
  • Over 588 people volunteer through our ministries on a monthly basis.
  • Over 450 people have gone on one of 40 short-term mission trips in the last 6 years. This year 273 people participated in a quarterly Missions Day locally. Our missions and outreach ministries--including our recently added Food Pantry and Clothes Closet--are reaching people locally and globally.
  • Most exciting of all, in the last 6 years we baptized over 730 new believers, and in the last 12 months over 164 new believers.
  • Our mission as a church is simple and straightforward, taken from the Bible's Great Commandment and Great Commission: Love God, Serve Others and Share Your Story.

By every conceivable measure, in our worship, Bible study, ministry and community, 2009 has climaxed a history of tremendous growth at Cross Pointe, and is certainly our best year yet!

...Cross Pointe Present...

  • As we begin a new year of ministry, we have a tremendous opportunity before us. More than 1.3 million people live in a 15-mile radius of our church campus. Of those, over 60% are completely unchurched.
  • A large segment of our local population--between 18 and 25%--are of international ethnic origin. Hispanic, European and Asian peoples are among us and need a touch from our church.
  • We have a young and diverse church. Our average age at Cross Pointe is just 28 years, and our average adult age (those 18 and over) is only 43 years. What this means is that we have many families at our church with young children and teenagers. Though this is not the only group we minister to, it is by far the largest segment of our ministry and of the greater population of the area.
  • Our Worship Arts Team has done an amazing job in ministering to a broad segment of this diverse audience. We continue to receive overwhelmingly positive response to our services. In worship, we strive to be first biblical as we preach the Truth of Christ each week, as well as innovative and creative in our worship and teaching ministries.

The fields around us are literally "white unto harvest", and Cross Pointe is positioned geographically and philosophically to reach another generation of people for Christ--locally and globally.

...and Cross Pointe Future!

The Pastor and staff announced a number of new ministry initiatives for the coming months and years, including:

  • For next generation worship, a Children's Worship Arts Ministry, where grades 1-6 will learn about music and how to contribute to worship with their voices, instruments and hearts. Timeline: 2011-2012
  • For next generation ministry, a wholistic biblical development plan and curriculum, for birth - age 18, where children and students are taught foundational principles of the Christian faith along spritiual developmental benchmarks. We want each child to be able to define their faith, defend their faith and declare their faith to others by the time they graduate high school. Timeline: Launches January 24, 2010.
  • For next generation ministry, a new preteen (grades 5-6) ministry, which will put these developmentally similar grades together for more effective spiritual growth. Timeline: Fall 2010.
  • For next generation ministry, a family worship experience where moms, dads and kids will be able to worship together, sharing the experience of praise and Bible learning and application. Timeline: Trial sessions coming in 2010.

These initiatives, along with our church's existing efforts, are designed to make disciples of all nations as we Love God, Serve Others and Share Our Story to new generations in Atlanta, the state of Georgia, the United States and the entire globe.
